About

With the soaring development of online communities, such as social media (e.g., Twitter, Flickr, Weibo, WeChat, etc.) and a variety of games, a large number of messages, texts, and multi-dimensional data are generated, which offer a precious channel for researchers to inspect and reflect social behaviors of online community users. Hence, there is a lot of opportunities on visualization and visual analytics on these data. HKUST VisLab SNG aims on three aspects of online community: social media, texts and games. By leveraging visualization and visual analytics techniques, we develop principles, methods, and tools to support visual interaction between humans and machine, allowing human-in-the-loop to enable them to couple their unique capabilities (e.g., domain knowledge, creative insights and logic thinking), while maximizing the computational power of machines, to generate valuable knowledge from large and complex data.
